The times I have traveled to Belize have been absolutely amazing. I first visited the country as a student midwife and practiced midwifery at the hospital in Belmopan the capital of Belize. This experience greatly enhanced my skills as a midwife. I am truly thankful to have had this opportunity to work such a variety of midwives and birthing women.
From there I returned again to the Western Region but this time I visited San Ignatio and attended births at the hospital where I became aware of the Safe Motherhood Initiative to improve maternal and infant outcomes in the Caribbean including Belize. I promised I would return to help by providing a DONA International Doula Training for the midwives, nurses and the women in the community.

My latest trip I recruited by dearest friend Dr. Nichelle Whitehead to travel to Belize. what an amazing trip we had. I provided the doula training to 22 women including nurse midwives, public health nurses, rural health nurse and women of the community. We met with the Ministry of Health and look forward to returning to provide additional doula trainings this year focusing on the Southern region of the country.
